Single Review: Madonna - Give Me All Your Lovin'

Diva, demigod, idol – These are the words I would use to sum up Madonna. For years she has been an icon and touched the world with her musical talent. Madonna’s newest album MDNA will hit the shelves on 26 March 2012 and she has made iTunes history with pre-sales. This is outstanding due to the controversy that has been caused by the name sounding like the drug MDMA.

The first single from MDNA was released in February and she collaborated with MIA and Nicki Minaj to create Give Me All Your Lovin’. I was shocked to hear these two hip hop artists collaborating with Madonna and I wasn’t sure if this would work. I ended up the catchy chorus in my head all evening as it’s quite repetitive. To see Madonna prancing around in the video like she is back in the 80’s makes me wonder if there should be an age limit where you stop dancing with cheerleaders in your music videos? Madonna is 53, after all.

M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj have always represented themselves as very strong women who are versatile, but also seem to carry an air of independence with their song choices and music. To see both girls alongside Madonna like Punch and Judy only having a few seconds to freestyle whilst repeating “L-U-V MADONNA” is a farce! However they get their few minutes, or shall I say seconds, of limelight.

Madonna’s second single Girl Gone Wild shows her eclectic side. It has a very upbeat tempo mixed with dance, while her track with MIA & Nicki Minaj seems to be a lot more pop with a slight hip hop edge. I personally think that Madonna is trying to appeal to everyone. Having a little bit of each genre on her new album was probably a safe option for her, and will tempt more people to get their hands on the MDNA album when it’s finally released.
