Music Journalism / Writing Workshops

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR THE MOST UNIQUE SCHOOL WORKSHOPS IN THE UK? |  THEN READ ON!

Our school workshops in Music Journalism are ground-breaking. Music hubs, teachers and schools often ask if we can deliver school workshops in classrooms and colleges. We now offer a range of school workshops, CPD lectures and journalism training to make The Rockhaq Community experience come to life.

When delivering school workshops, we work from our unique lesson plans. All our Rockhaq music journalism workshops and lesson plans meet the National Curriculum for English Literacy at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Not bad.

Teacher Interview

Don’t just take our word for it!

Here’s what English teacher Mrs Qamar said after our workshops at Judgemeadow Community College, Leicester. She reveals how she selected students to take part, how our workshops engaged her students to write hundreds of words and the impact after we left her school.

We delivered 6 x Rockhaq Workshops in How to Write A Music Review to the same class of mixed ability Year 9 students. This took place over one half term, at the same time each week. Two teachers worked together to pre-select a class of students.

Mrs Qamar’s class had a 100% engagement rate 🙂

School Workshops | CHOOSE WORKSHOPS FOR A CAREERS DAY, A TERM OR FOR A WHOLE ACADEMIC YEAR

All our School Workshops are customised to suit you. Award-winning journalist and Rockhaq founder Michelle Dhillon builds your workshops from her unique Rockhaq lesson plans, which fit into the National Curriculum for English Literacy at KS2, KS3 and KS4 levels.

Choose from SCHOOL WORKSHOPS in:

How To Write A Live Review

From a live show the student has seen, or from a performance live on the same day. This works best at Live Shows, Festivals or School Concerts. One paragraph is taught per hour. We can deliver a series of 4-6 separate workshops over one half term. Alternatively we can deliver a whole finished review with one class/group over one day, ideally before a performance takes place.
How To Write A Music-Based Opinion Column

or Op-Ed. This is suitable for more advanced students, or a second or third term activity. One paragraph is taught per hour. Works best as a series of 4-6 separate workshops over one half term. Alternatively we can deliver a whole finished review with one class/group over one day.
Hit N Run Workshops for Careers Day

A 60-minute careers talk in music journalism and writing workshop, which inspires students to begin and continue writing their own music review. One Hit N Run hybrid workshop is delivered per hour. Works best as a series of 4 separate workshops with 4 different classes/groups over one day.
New Artist Promotion/PR and Interviewing Skills

These are being piloted with 3 London music hubs over 2018-2019. Ask us what we have planned.

I’m really enjoying Rockhaq. I’ve been looking for something like this for a while now. Just submitting a review to iTunes isn’t as satisfying as contributing to a proper community. Rockhaq is the best thing I have ever done at school and it has taken over my life. It’s even more addictive than Facebook.”

Rockhaq is just a really smart and exciting way to bring together a community of young people who are passionate about music. It is possibly one of the best things to ever be created in terms of music blogging. Rockhaq is a wonderful novelty! I also really love that I won tickets to see my favourite live band Muse in concert thanks to Rockhaq!

I love Rockhaq and writing on it has given me so much confidence when it comes to presenting in class and writing my coursework. I like being able to share my thoughts on whatever music I listen to with other people online and it's even better that I became a student editor and I won tickets to go and see Nicki Minaj, thanks to how much I had improved on Rockhaq.

This is SICK! The best thing about Rockhaq is the opportunity to review the bands that you love and I would love to get free review tickets to see the bands that I love seeing live anyway! It's great that we can do all of this at school and at home in our free time.

Rockhaq is a rare and compelling experience that helps improve grammar skills and might just help students progress into something much bigger such as being a music journalist in the future. I loved the free newly-released CD's I got of my favourite artists thanks to Rockhaq. It was great to hear albums before anyone else and review them.

I love the idea of this site, it gives the opportunity for people to say what they think about bands and artists' work and this could be seen by the artist or band themselves. It's also exciting being able to write about music and share what music I think is good and explain why it's good to other users in the community.
