Video Review: Your Demise – These Lights
Your Demise are back with their usual swagger in the second video from their upcoming album “The Golden Age” and what an age it will be. For all those who don’t know who Your Demise are, they are the current leaders in the UK hardcore scene. For those who do know who they are, this isn’t Your Demise like you know them, this isn’t the usual hectic party hardcore you may know and love this is skate punk at its finest.
The music video doesn’t really have much going on except the band swaggering around London. The video seems more like a rap video with its sweeping shots of lead singer Ed McRae on a rooftop and the way the band gesture and smirk. If you turned the mute on you would probably assume you were watching a rap video. The whole band bleed cool and style as ever (each frame has them wearing a different outfit) and their cheeky party attitude shines through.
The band have said in interviews that many of the songs on the new album wouldn’t be like their 2010 effort “The Kids We Used to Be”, that there would be a blend of genres. From what I have heard from the first two songs they released “Born a Snake” and “Forget About Me” there wasn’t much evidence of this. With the release of the newest single “These Lights” the genre mashing has become evident with their newest single being a love letter written to 90’s skate punk. It’s a song that wouldn’t be out of place on a Tony Hawk game with its catchy riffs and speed drumming. Their songs have always been more catchy then typical hardcore and this song takes that appeal and blows in up by ten. 2012 is The Golden Age and Your Demise are kings.
