Club Rockhaq 2020 kicks off!

We had a great start to this year’s Club Rockhaq workshops just over a week ago. Nearly all places are now fully booked too. Read on to find out more about what happened and how you can get involved.
Our first workshop of 2020 kicked off with a thorough review-planning and writing session. Last year we had some great music being covered in our reviews and we’re pleased to see a very wide range of artists being covered again. So what happened?

WHAT HAPPENED AT CLUB ROCKHAQ 2020: MONTH ONE?

This month saw us kick off proceedings by starting another round of music reviews. Each student selected their own track or album to form the basis of their review. We refreshed everyone’s memories on review planning and structure by looking using mind maps and word clouds. This worked well as most remembered our teaching from last year and were raring to go with their own reviews! We’re expecting to see N.W.A.’s classic Straight Outta Compton reviewed, as well as My Chemical Romance, Little Mix and several others.

Our second workshop group at The BRITE Centre also chose a wide range of artists and songs to review including Billie Eilish, the peerless Lauryn Hill (expect to see her debut solo album reviewed on The Rockhaq Community asap), Michael Jackson and Bon Jovi (yes, Bon Jovi!). Both workshops were lively and full of discussion, which is great. Both groups will be doing research on their selected music at home this month too. Next month we’ll start – and possibly finish – all reviews in the workshop.

We still have a few places left for our Club Rockhaq workshops in 2020, at both Oadby Library and The BRITE Centre, so get involved if you want to move on up!

CLUB ROCKHAQ WRITING/JOURNALISM WORKSHOPS 2020
  • Saturday 7 March at Oadby Library, Leicestershire: Club Rockhaq Music Journalism and Creative Writing Workshops. Time: 10am-12pm. Ages 8 and upwards. Cost: £5 per workshop or £30 for all of 2020.
  • This will continue on the following dates: Saturday 4 April, Saturday 2 May, Saturday 6 June. Our workshops will break for July/August and resume in September 2020.
  • Saturday 7 March at The BRITE Centre, Leicester: Club Rockhaq Music Journalism and Creative Writing Workshops. Time: 1pm-3pm. Ages 8 and upwards. Cost: £3 per workshop or £20 for all of 2020. (discount subject to address check).
  • This will continue on the following dates: Saturday 4 April, Saturday 2 May, Saturday 6 June. Our workshops will break for July/August and resume in September 2020.
