Rockhaq on BBC Radio Leicester
For those of you who missed this, we were on BBC Radio Leicester last week. Our Founder and Editor at Large Michelle Dhillon was invited on to the mid-morning show on Thursday 18 April, otherwise known as Maundy Thursday, the day before Good Friday. Thanks to all at the BBC for making us feel so welcome 🙂
BBC Radio Leicester presenter Rupal spoke to Michelle about all things Rockhaq. Michelle spoke at length about her past in journalism, how and why The Rockhaq Community came about and the Rockhaq monthly workshops for young people which are being supported by Arts Council England, Leicester City Council, Leicester City Libraries and Leicestershire Libraries.
We love how well our workshops are going so far. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our avid writers – past and present – for making The Rockhaq Community what it is today. Michelle gave a brief shout out to a couple of our hardcore writers during the interview, including Mark Wong.
Our monthly Rockhaq workshops cover music-related creative writing, such as learning how to write music reviews, lyrics and more. BBC Radio Leicester touched upon how much work we’ve done with teenagers since The Rockhaq Community started. Even though we welcome all young people aged 8 and upwards to our workshops, a regular number of young writers aged 13+ are getting involved each month too 😀
Our workshops take place on the first Saturday of the month – bar a couple of brief breaks – and you can find out more about them above. We’re taking names for next year soon, so do feel free to get in touch with any questions you may have about them.
