Music Journalism and Creative Writing Workshops

We’re pleased to announce Club Rockhaq workshops are coming to Leicester and Leicestershire Libraries. Thanks to Arts Council England, Leicester City Council Braunstone Ward Funding, Paul and Elaine at Leicester City Libraries and Kim at Oadby Library for helping these workshops to take place. Thank you, peeps! 😀

Our Club Rockhaq places are being booked up fast, though. Only a few places are left at The BRITE Centre at the time of publishing, so please reserve your spot as soon as possible. No money is needed to reserve.

WHAT HAPPENS AT CLUB ROCKHAQ?

These are two-hour creative writing workshops. All young people write their own work, using music and media as inspiration. We engage writers in every aspect of music journalism – from writing reviews of music they love, to writing a live music review. We also cover opinion column writing, which can take any music-related subject into account. These music journalism workshops will be led by the Rockhaq Community founder and editor Michelle Dhillon.

We are dedicating some workshops to lyric writing. These will be led by the well-known poet Rob Gee and integrated into the rest of our workshops programme. You don’t need to be a performing musician to come along and take part in these creative writing workshops. We’re sure Rob will inspire any budding songwriters to pick up a pen and write.

Active Rockhaq Community members are supporting these creative writing workshops, including Sam Brookes. We aim to inspire a new generation by inviting current writers to help them with their work. All tutors and guests will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Workshops take place on the first Saturday each month and continue for one year, with a break for Summer holidays – dates TBC. All young writers will create an ongoing portfolio of their work and publish it on The Rockhaq Community. Young writers of all ability levels are welcome. We work with everyone to make sure you enjoy each workshop as much as possible.
