EP Review: 30 Seconds To Mars – MTV Unplugged
Do you love acoustic versions of amazing songs that sound just as or even more perfect that the originals? Then I recommend that you listen to the EP of 30 Seconds to Mars’ MTV sessions where they recorded acoustic renditions of songs from their third studio album.
The EP consists of 3 acoustic renditions of 30 Seconds to Mars’ songs and one cover, the tracks include the brilliant ‘Kings & Queens’, ‘Hurricane’, and ‘Night of the Hunter’ with a cover of U2’s ‘Where the Streets Have No Name’ that has a gospel choir backing lead singer, Jared Leto with vocals which, in my opinion is ingenious because the backing vocals from the gospel choir really adds more umph and flavour to the song with Jared Leto’s immense vocals, Shannon Leto’s progressive drumming and Tomo Miličević’s beautiful acoustic guitar riffs. Other songs on the album have been perfectly modified with the aid of the acoustic guitar and sound so different, don’t get me wrong, this is far from a bad thing because the acoustic renditions are fantastic and do sound different to the studio versions but it’s lovely hearing them in a different yet magnificent way. Because the EP was recorded live, you can hear the audience singing and cheering with Jared and the band which is also lovely because it makes you really feel as if you are there watching them.
I really have so much love for EVERY track on this EP because I myself am a massive fan of the band but my favorites (if I had to choose) would include, the awesome acoustic renditions of ‘Kings and Queens’, ‘Hurricane’ and of course, the cover of U2’s ‘Where the Streets Have No Name’ because Jared and the band really made it their own by adding the gospel choir, Jared’s vocals, Shannon’s immense drumming and Tomo’s luscious acoustic guitar riffs.
I am going to give 30 Seconds to Mars’ MTV Unplugged EP a rating of 5 stars out of 5 because each cover with the aid of an acoustic guitar and it is truly a very special treat for anybody (especially fans of the band) but honestly, this EP would appeal to anyone of any age. If you are looking for some new music to listen to which will have you singing along with the easily addictive lyrics, then I recommend you pick this EP up today, hopefully it’ll get to into such a unique band and will have you coming back for more.
