Album Review: Rihanna - Talk That Talk

Pop princess Rihanna has smashed it yet again with her sixth album Talk That talk. This album features well-known releases such as We Found Love which is produced by Calvin Harris and You Da One. Since 2005 we have heard the award-winning superstar go from reggae to pop, then from rock to dance – she has done it all! Talk That Talk is the best album by far. I find each track catchy, fun and different. ‘Where Have You Been’, ‘Cockiness’ and ‘Birthday Cake’ are definitely ones to flick to if you like a mix of electro-pop, dance and R&B and that is one heck of a combination.

The track ‘Birthday Cake’ has been re-released earlier this week to feature Rihanna’s old flame Chris Brown, which after his conviction for assaulting Rihanna has left us all gob-smacked! This track is my favourite. The words are so mischievous and devilish. Lyrics like ‘Remember how you did it?’ makes us all wonder – Is this a secret message to Chris Brown?. Overall this album is playful, sexy and riotous. I think it will keep flying off the shelves.

Rihanna is still selling records, still putting on outstanding performances everywhere she goes and is not losing any fans; if anything she’s gaining more each day.

Singer Rebecca Ferguson publicly criticised Rhianna recently about being a bad role model. She said: “I wouldn’t let my daughter watch her as a woman, I want to teach my daughter that a man should love you for who you are, not for how you dress and you don’t have to be a sexual thing to a man.” Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but I don’t agree with this at all. At the end of the day, Rihanna is still selling records, still putting on outstanding performances everywhere she goes and is not losing any fans; if anything she’s gaining more each day. Just because she uses naughty lyrics in her music and wears sexy clothes, I don’t think this makes her a bad role model. It’s just part of her character and her style. Rihanna responded to this criticism and said she does not consider herself as a role model to her young fans, she “just wants to make music.” That is the most important thing, right?

This Caribbean Queen is taking over the world. She has gone from young sweet and innocent Rihanna with songs like ‘If It’s Loving’ from her first album Music Of The Sun, to grown up Rihanna with raunchy, fun dance songs like S&M from her previous album Loud. 2012 has been an amazing start for her so far, she has won a Brit award and a Grammy! I am so looking forward to what she has in store for the rest of this year.
