Album Review: Rihanna – Talk That Talk
Album Review: Rihanna - Talk That Talk
Pop princess Rihanna has smashed it yet again with her sixth album Talk That talk. This album features well-known releases such as We Found Love which is produced by Calvin Harris and You Da One. Since 2005 we have heard the award-winning superstar go from reggae to pop, then from rock to dance – she has done it all! Talk That Talk is the best album by far. I find each track catchy, fun and different. ‘Where Have You Been’, ‘Cockiness’ and ‘Birthday Cake’ are definitely ones to flick to if you like a mix of electro-pop, dance and R&B and that is one heck of a combination.
The track ‘Birthday Cake’ has been re-released earlier this week to feature Rihanna’s old flame Chris Brown, which after his conviction for assaulting Rihanna has left us all gob-smacked! This track is my favourite. The words are so mischievous and devilish. Lyrics like ‘Remember how you did it?’ makes us all wonder – Is this a secret message to Chris Brown?. Overall this album is playful, sexy and riotous. I think it will keep flying off the shelves.
Rihanna is still selling records, still putting on outstanding performances everywhere she goes and is not losing any fans; if anything she’s gaining more each day.

Singer Rebecca Ferguson publicly criticised Rhianna recently about being a bad role model. She said: “I wouldn’t let my daughter watch her as a woman, I want to teach my daughter that a man should love you for who you are, not for how you dress and you don’t have to be a sexual thing to a man.” Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but I don’t agree with this at all. At the end of the day, Rihanna is still selling records, still putting on outstanding performances everywhere she goes and is not losing any fans; if anything she’s gaining more each day. Just because she uses naughty lyrics in her music and wears sexy clothes, I don’t think this makes her a bad role model. It’s just part of her character and her style. Rihanna responded to this criticism and said she does not consider herself as a role model to her young fans, she “just wants to make music.” That is the most important thing, right?
This Caribbean Queen is taking over the world. She has gone from young sweet and innocent Rihanna with songs like ‘If It’s Loving’ from her first album Music Of The Sun, to grown up Rihanna with raunchy, fun dance songs like S&M from her previous album Loud. 2012 has been an amazing start for her so far, she has won a Brit award and a Grammy! I am so looking forward to what she has in store for the rest of this year.

I think Rihanna is amazing! and so is this album, but i’ve got to disagree with one bit, she should understand that she is going to be a role model for her younger fans it’s all part of the job when you’ve created music and become so popular, and when she was doing songs like S&M I feel she was trying to take her sexiness to far and going really over the top which is going to affect how many of her younger fans will grow up thinking in the future. apart from that though i can’t agree more, this album is immense! 🙂

Sometimes I think that Rihanna should take the role model thing seriously, sometimes I don’t. I do believe she does what she likes and I think she shouldn’t be responsible for what a lot of teenage girls might grow up thinking. Rihanna’s image isn’t just her creation – it’s that of her managers, record label, songwriters, etc. Bear in mind she was a lot younger when she first exploded onto the music scene and she would have been told what to wear, what to sing, how to dance etc and she probably still is. This is what makes me think we shouldn’t be so harsh on her. Yes, she is responsible for decisions in her personal life, but not as much in the pop field I think 🙂

You guys both have a point. Maybe it could be her managers and everyone making her out to be something she is not. Abit like Pink a couple years ago with her first album, she sais it just was not her. But with Rihanna, if it is not her managers etc, I dont think she has to consider herself as a role model if she does not want to. She should not have to walk on egg shells to satisfy younger fans thats just more pressure for her and also her being something she is not. But like I said there is points on each side. I think she is wicked though. Proper improved over the years 😀

Yeah I was gonna say that it would be like walking on egg shells. Where would this end if she had to consider every single thing she did all the time? She would be a nervous wreck! I definitely think a lot of it is what she is told to do, so in that sense think it’s a bit unfair that everyone points the finger at her. I do agree her image is a bit cheap but think her management need to take the blame for that!
Her songs rule though, ha 🙂

OMG Ashton I agree with everything that you are saying. As we all know Rhianna has blew up over the past few years, and is a good musician. Despite what people say she’s still selling records and people love her:-)
