Album Review: Paramore – Brand New Eyes
Album Review: Paramore - Brand New Eyes
Paramore are an American Rock band from Franklin, Tennessee. The band consists of Hayley Williams (lead vocals), Jeremy Davis (bassist) and Taylor York (lead guitarist). Two former members of the band, brothers Josh and Zac Farro worked on the album, playing rhythm guitar and percussion. The twins left in late December of 2010 due to differences with other members and wanting to work on their individual new projects.
Brand New Eyes is very interesting; it seems with a few of their songs “Looking Up” and “Misguided Ghosts” that they were looking like they were going to break up or decide to go on an indefinite hiatus because of the lyrics in the songs. These songs also talk about being on the road and some of the difficulties it has.
Paramore often use an anti-suicide messages in their songs, This is because of past events in their lives. One of their songs from this album is called “Turn It Off” and some of the lyrics include “The worst part is before it gets any better, we’re heading for cliff and in the free fall I will realise that I’m better off when I reach the bottom”. They released five singles from Brand New Eyes, one of them being “Careful”, which is also the first track on the album. The video shows the band on the Brand New Eyes tour, which they played in 2010.
I enjoyed every song on the album, the instrumentation is fantastic and Hayley’s vocals are outstanding as usual. This was the only one of Paramore’s albums that reached the top of the chart in countries including Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and The United Kingdom. It was certificated a Platinum in the UK and the album won “Best Album” at the Kerrang Awards back in 2010.

Brilliant review 🙂 I can see why Zac and Josh left. The band are Christian and have always had positive themes in their lyrics (like you mentioned with the anti suicide) but I seem to remember the lyrics “I know you’re leaving in the morning when you wake up, so leave me with some proof its not a dream” the lyrics are a little suggestive of sex and Josh and Zac said they thought the band was getting blasphemous. I’m not religious but I can see why it might put the twins off. Also what a lot of people don’t know is that Hayley Williams is actually the only person signed to the record label. Everyone else is just her backing band which explains the line up changes. If I was a serious musician that would drive me up the wall not being certain of whether you have a future in the band or not so I can defiantly see why they want to leave.
