Club Rockhaq workshops land in Libraries!

We’ve almost recovered from running our opening Club Rockhaq workshops at Oadby Library & The BRITE Centre last weekend. Phew! A last minute flurry of signups for Oadby made for a long and jam-packed day for us, but we absolutely loved it! A massive thank you to everyone who came along and worked so hard in your opening session. It’s given us a lot to think about when we plan the rest of our monthly Club Rockhaq workshops. I’d also like to say thanks to Paul who said hi to me when I was setting up at Oadby Library. You brought back many nostalgic memories about working at Leicester’s De Montfort Hall in the early noughties. An unexpected but apt blast from the past 😀

Club Rockhaq Workshops Are Coming In 2019

We’re pleased to announce Club Rockhaq workshops are coming to Leicester and Leicestershire Libraries. Thanks to Arts Council England, Leicester City Council Braunstone Ward Funding, Paul and Elaine at Leicester City Libraries and Kim at Oadby Library for helping these workshops to take place. Thank you, peeps! 😀
Our Club Rockhaq places are being booked up fast, though. Only a few places are left at The BRITE Centre at the time of publishing, so please reserve your spot as soon as possible. No money is needed to reserve.
These are two-hour creative writing workshops. All young people write their own work, using music and media as inspiration.

Flawless: Writing East Midlands Writer’s Den, University of Derby, 16 June 2018

We were invited to run our unique Music Journalism workshops at the Writing East Midlands Writer’s Den at the weekend. This year’s event took place at The University of Derby on Saturday 16 June. We chose the mighty Beyonce to inspire and guide the young writers taking part in the Writing East Midlands Writer’s Den. But we found that this team of 40 young writers were pretty much #flawless already.

Personal Jesus: Top 8 Easter Songs

It’s finally Easter and therefore the perfect time to showcase our Top 8 Easter Songs. Not only has the subject of God inspired many a decent musician, so has Jesus and the resurrection, so it’s high time we acknowledged this fact. There may be the odd pun-delicious song included in our Top 8 Easter Songs but rest assured, every single one of them is a golden egg! Find out what made our Top 8 Easter Songs below.

Journalism Workshop in Derbyshire

By  •  News

We’ve just finished our second Music Journalism workshop at Ashbourne Library in Derbyshire for the Writing East Midlands Young Writer’s Group. The first workshop took place on 6 February 2018 and catered for 8-11 year olds. Last night’s workshop was for 12-16 year olds and we saw just as much talent and hard work in the senior writer’s group. We even had a parent eager to join The Rockhaq Community at the end 😉

Boys Don’t Cry: Top 5 Love Songs By Men

By  •  Lists

It’s been a while since our last Top Ten list, but we definitely couldn’t let the power of love go unrecognised on the Rockhaq Community, so here are our Top 5 Love Songs By Men for Valentines Day 2018. This list is a bit different. As there are literally hundreds of great songs to choose from, we’ve focused on love songs written by men, to make it easier to choose our favourites.

Music Journalism Workshop at Ashbourne Library, Derbyshire

By  •  News

We’ve just carried out a special Music Journalism workshop at Ashbourne Library for the Writing East Midlands Young Writer’s Group. We’re running two separate workshops for different age groups. The first of these took place last night (6 February 2018) and catered for Year 4 to Year 7 students, who were all 8-11 years old. Although this is the youngest group we’ve worked with yet, the writers simply blew us away with their talent and enthusiasm for music journalism.
