We\u2019re pleased to announce that we’ve been invited to run some special\u00a0Writing East Midlands<\/em> Young Writer’s Groups workshops in Derby during February 2018.<\/p>\n

As part of these unique music journalism workshops, we will work with two separate Young Writer’s Groups at Ashbourne Library. The two groups consist of the Juniors Writing Squad, made up of school years 4-7, and the Seniors Writing Squad, made up of school years 8-11.<\/p>\n

Both Writing East Midlands<\/em> Young Writer’s Groups Workshops will be led by Rockhaq Community founder and editor Michelle Dhillon. They will include a careers overview in Music Journalism with an introduction to The Rockhaq Community. The majority of time will be spent teaching students how to write their first professional music review. Students are always encouraged to choose and bring their own track or album to write about in all Rockaq workshops. This is great for developing literacy skills as Michelle\u2019s workshops and lesson plans all meet the National Curriculum for English Literacy <\/strong><\/em>too.<\/p>\n

We can’t confirm this yet but these Writing East Midlands<\/em> Young Writer’s Groups Workshops in Derbyshire may include special guest appearances from key Rockhaq Community members who have gone on to teach English to students too. We hope to inspire a new generation of young Rockhaq Community members by inviting these members to talk at the workshops.<\/p>\n

This took place before John Wilson & The John Wilson Orchestra performed A Celebration of the MGM Film Musicals<\/a>. Students from Nottinghamshire’s Tuxford Academy took part part in the live music review workshop, stayed for the concert and started writing their first live music reviews post-event.<\/p>\n
