{"id":16145,"date":"2017-12-15T00:30:18","date_gmt":"2017-12-15T00:30:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rockhaq.com\/?p=16145"},"modified":"2017-12-15T09:29:47","modified_gmt":"2017-12-15T09:29:47","slug":"playlist-christmas-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rockhaq.com\/1546951672250\/?p=16145","title":{"rendered":"Playlist: Christmas 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve\u00a0performed my annual Christmas sync,\u00a0my iPhone is now half-full of Christmas songs and carols, so why not take a little of the fun out of the occasion by examining a few of them critically?<\/p>\n<p>[tw-divider]<strong>Slade\u00a0\u2013 Merry Xmas Everybody\u00a0<\/strong>[\/tw-divider]<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Slade\u00a0\u2013 Merry Xmas Everybody, 1973<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1170\" height=\"878\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0A8KT365wlA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" gesture=\"media\" allow=\"encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s\u00a0Chrisssssssstmaaaaaaaas!\u00a0If you don\u2019t hear this song at least twenty times between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, is it really Christmas?\u00a0Whether it\u2019s\u00a0Noddy\u00a0Holder\u2019s iconic\u00a0festive scream or that classic guitar and keyboard riff, this is Christmas in a song.<\/p>\n<p><em>Christmas Feeling<\/em>:\u00a0Like putting the decorations up\u00a0and finding your hands coated in glitter. You\u2019re not getting that glitter off your hands for the rest\u00a0of\u00a0today,\u00a0nor are you getting this song out of your head for the rest of the month.<\/p>\n<p>[tw-divider]<strong>Wham! \u2013 Last Christmas\u00a0<\/strong>[\/tw-divider]<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Wham! \u2013 Last Christmas, 1986<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/E8gmARGvPlI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" gesture=\"media\" allow=\"encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I can already say that I\u2019m not a fan. The synths, the cheesy\u00a0chorus, the images of George\u00a0Michael\u00a0sadly hanging around a ski lodge.\u00a0It\u2019s almost unbearably on the nose for a love-related Christmas song.\u00a0This one doesn\u2019t remind me of\u00a0the festive season,\u00a0so much as it\u00a0reminds me of a sad festive\u00a0breakup. Cheese is all you can think about.\u00a0Cheese.<\/p>\n<p>[tw-divider]<strong>Lower than Atlantis\u00a0\u2013 Merry Christmas (Wherever You Are)\u00a0<\/strong>[\/tw-divider]<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Lower than Atlantis\u00a0\u2013 Merry Christmas (Wherever You Are), 2012<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dx6uKUFpRKM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" gesture=\"media\" allow=\"encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A relative unknown, but possibly the only Christmas song this side of the 90\u2019s that I actually enjoy! Just a good festive filled track\u00a0about hanging with your friends and family at this time of the year. The chorus is\u00a0the kind of infectious tune people yell at the pub on Christmas eve.<\/p>\n<p><em>Christmas Feeling<\/em>:\u00a0Like\u00a0finishing work early on the 22nd knowing you have ten days off\u00a0and heading home to be with your friends and family.<\/p>\n<p>[tw-divider]<strong>The Waitresses \u2013 Christmas Wrapping\u00a0<\/strong>[\/tw-divider]<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The Waitresses \u2013 Christmas Wrapping, 1982<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1170\" height=\"878\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nud2TQNahaU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" gesture=\"media\" allow=\"encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As a true cynic at heart,\u00a0I can definitely\u00a0get behind the message Christmas Wrapping is trying to get across.\u00a0The terrible attempt at rapping\u00a0(wrapping\/rapping haha\u00a0geddit?)\u00a0that comes off\u00a0like a terrible attempt at spoken word aside,\u00a0the message\u00a0of skipping Christmas because life gets hectic (and doesn\u2019t stop just because it\u2019s Christmas) is extremely relatable.
