Today sees the final day of hot hot heat descend on the excitable, largely Spanish, crowds gathered at Sonar By Day at the MACBA museum in the Raval area of Barcelona and I for one am feeling slightly sad that it’s drawing to a close. However, it’s not over til the fat lady sings - or in this case, the Chemical Brothers pound out some blazing basslines in the Fira Gran Via – so I make the most of today’s stellar lineup and get myself to the Red Bull Music Academy tent again.

Welcomed by another day of blazing hot sunshine, I make a beeline for the Red Bull Music Academy tent after attending a brilliant Digital Music 2.0/10 session with Paul Brown of Spotify and Scott Cohen of The Orchard. Check my blog if you want to hear more about that. Meanwhile, the Red Bull Music Academy rolled out a succession of aces with Australia’s Dizz 1, Colombia’s Lucrecia Dalt, New York’s Pursuit Grooves and the UK’s Braiden all on their artist roster.

Writing this in retrospect five days after Sonar festival 2010, it’s hard to believe that I’m still buzzing after this incredible 3 day event in Barcelona. A unique concoction of fabulous weather, a mental crowd of Europeans and an incredible line-up all conspired to make this year’s Sonar a totally awe-inspiring experience. If there’s one thing the Spaniards have got down perfectly, it’s how to party in the sunshine!

Admittedly, it takes us a bit of effort to find the actual section of the forest where Keane are playing, but having to trek around acres of woodland in the glorious summer sunshine is hardly a chore. And by the time we eventually find the right place in Staffordshire’s Cannock Chase Forest, Keane are just about to hit the stage.

Ever the unlikely frontman, Tom Chaplin shows us he’s back on form with a soaring, perfect vocal that even impresses my Ronan-Keating-fanatic mother

Is it a sign of old age when the coolest thing at a gig is the awesome air-con? Nottingham Rock City wasn't packed out tonight, but the noise could have come from a crowd twice its size. Relentless energy from two support acts didn't stop the venue from erupting when Matt Skiba, resplendent in a shirt and bow tie, reached the stage with his bandmates, kickstarting a night of massive singalongs and moshpits.

Dot to Dot Nottingham 2010 saw me fighting my way out of violent moshpits, battling to get any straight answer at all out of my interview with 80s Matchbox B Line Disaster and finding the intense dad-dancing outside the Rescue Rooms from about 10pm onwards pretty hilarious. Here’s my run-down of the day, video interview links to follow...
Nottingham act Frontiers kicked off proceedings in the Rock City main hall with their dark lighting, angular guitars and heavy drums. It’s a noteworthy start but after a while
