Rockhaq in Action: Attendance

The beginning:

Tariq is a 14 year old secondary school pupil who needs to improve his literacy skills. He has poor attendance and as a result, his basic reading and writing skills are suffering. He doesn’t care about school and can’t see why it is important to improve his attendance.

The end:

Tariq is awarded a Rockhaq mission to review the new Tinie Tempah album and Skepta single.

So what happened in between?

1. Tariq signs up to Rockhaq, sets up his blog and adds friends.

2. Tariq completes a series of entry level missions in class over several months. He downloads MP3s from our singles vault, listens to them and chooses words to describe the music, improving his ability to use different adjectives to describe the music he enjoys listening to. He watches our video guides to reviewing and listens to teacher input, improving pupil engagement with classes. He uploads all his work to his blog, developing new IT skills in the process.

3. Tariq’s teacher adds his comments on each blog, notes progress and development, allowing for good pupil teacher feedback. His teacher awards badges for improved work and attendance which help Tariq to access more MP3s and missions from the singles vault and improves his motivation. Over the course of twelve weeks, Tariq’s attendance has significantly improved and he is now much more engaged in writing and reading.

Tariq’s school attendance has significantly improved and so have his literacy skills, with Skepta.

Boy Better Know? He does now.
