Album Review: Fall Out Boy – Folie A Deux1
This is a review of Fall Out Boy’s fifth studio album Folie a Deux. Fall Out Boy consists of Patrick Stump (Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), Peter Wentz (Backing Vocals/Bassist), Joseph Trohman (Lead Guitar) and Andrew Hurley (percussion).
The name of the album Folie a Deux is French for “A Madness Shared By Two”. The album was recorded in Los Angeles, California, where some of the members live. There is a total of 13 tracks on the original release, however I have listened to the deluxe version which had an additional six bonus tracks on it, including acoustic and remixed versions of other songs on the album as well as two bonus tracks, one of them being a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” which I thought was excellent.
The theme of the album is contrasting moods, this would include selfishness of certain aspects of the United States Government. I noticed this on certain songs like “I Don’t Care“, “20 Dollar Nose Bleed” and ”Pavlove”. My favourite being “Pavlove” because of certain lyrics like “I’m the invisible man, who can’t stop staring at the mirror” which did show me a vain and selfish side of certain things. “20 Dollar Nose Bleed” features Brendon Urie, the lead vocalist from Panic! At The Disco. The album also features the artist Little Wayne. Some of the bonus tracks involve a song called “Lullaby”, this is an nice and soft acoustic song. This song was influenced by Bob Dylan. Another song called “Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown On a Bad Bet” was a pure example of the albums theme. Fall Out Boy decided to go on an indefinite hiatus in late 2010 because each member wanted to work on their own individual projects. I loved the album, it was different from their earlier music and you can tell that they have grown from being Pop/Rock to including certain elements of Hip-Hop and Rnb.
I think this is a fantastic album and having heard all their previous work, I feel this is a more mature offering which is sure to please fans old and new. If you haven’t heard this already – GO OUT AND BUY IT!
